STM Certificate Courses in Theology

The School of Theology and Missions (STM) of Central University will run a short Certificate and Advanced certificate course on 5 consecutive Saturdays, beginning from 15th October, 2016 to 12th November, 2016.

The modules are Pastoral and Mission Studies, Church Leadership and Administration, Guidance and Counselling, Pentecostal Studies, Gerontology Studies and Biblical Studies with special emphasis on NT Greek.

The STM will also run an Advanced Certificate in Guidance and Counselling, Pastoral and Missions Studies.

The fees for the Certificate programme is GH¢700.00 while the Advanced Certificate programme will cost GH¢800.00. The fees are inclusive of lunch and course materials.

Classes will begin at 8.00 and ends at 3.00pm on each Saturday.

All Pastors, Church workers, Counselors, Allied church organizations and interested persons could call and register.

CENTRAL ADMITS 720 STUDENTS AT 18TH MATRICULATION CEREMONY

Central University has held its 18th matriculation ceremony for 534 fresh students admitted into the University during the February admission window. These students matriculated this year increases the total number enrolled to 1800 students. Out of this number, 68 students were enrolled at the Kumasi campus. Remarkably, the graduate school recorded 157 admissions which is 38.1 percent of this year’s admissions.

Addressing the matriculants at the Trinity Hall of the University at the Miotso campus, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kwesi Yankah congratulated the fresh students, especially those from the Kumasi campus for gaining admission into the University.

He said, although the matriculation was the second to be held this academic year for students in Accra, it is, however, the first for students from the Kumasi campus since taking off in September 2016.

He assured parents of the matriculates that their choice of University was not a leap in the dark and called on the students to make use of the opportunities available in Central University to advance their lives. He mentioned the exceptional academic track record of Central University touching on the experience and quality of the members of the University Board, the quality staff and faculty which has culminated in numerous awards the university have received in recent times.

These awards, the Vice Chancellor mentioned included the Head of States award as the Best Tertiary Institution in Ghana in 2015 and the Socrates award as the Best University and Manager in 2014 by the European Business Assembly. These achievements culminating in the granting of a presidential charter in 2016 as the high point in this remarkable journey of the university.

Describing the university as an academic paradise, Professor Yankah enumerated some prominent personalities who have being associated with the University notably Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (Vice President of Ghana) who served as a visiting professor in Economic Governance between 2015 and 2016. He also mentioned the Finance Minister and Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Hon. Ken Ofori Atta and Prof Frompong Boateng respectively ( former University Council Members) and Hon. Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture and Memberof Parliament for Krowor, who is also an alumnus of the University among others.

He also acknowledged the Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Wood, the former Dean of Central Law Faculty, and Professor Ken Attafuah who now heads the National Identification Authority.

Professor Yankah also revealed that the University will soon rollout some new programmes such as degrees in Midwifery and Public Health.

Ing. Frederick Kofi Asare Yeboah, a University Council member and the Chancellor’s representative at this year’s matriculation in his speech noted that the students were privileged to be admitted into CU considering the fact that the University had attained Charter status last year to award its own degrees. He reminded them that success in their chosen field and studies will be determined by how they utilize the opportunities and the enabling environment that has been created for them.

Ing Yeboah said Central raises practical transformational and moral leaders who are greatly influenced by the virtues of faith, integrity and excellence.

He, on behalf of the Chancellor congratulated the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Kwesi Yankah on his nomination as Minister of State responsible for Tertiary Education.

The celebrated Poet, Nana Asaase also uplifted the gathering with a motivational piece challenging the students to aspire towards greatness irrespective of the current challenges since others have overcame such odds to achieve greatness.

The Registrar, Mr. Emil Afenyo administered the matriculation oath after the Dean of Students, Rev. Dr. Fred Brako had presented them for matriculation.
