Brief Background
The Department of Economics was established in 1998 as a Department of Social Studies purposely to provide supporting services to the School of Business Management and Administration. However, given the current curricular expansion and institutional transformation, the functional scope of the department has now gone beyond adjunct. In fact, thedepartment is now an integral part of the newly established Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The commencement of the 2010/2011 academic year, witnessed a new life in the department as the first batch of 36 students were admitted to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Currently, the department can boast of over 240 undergraduate students who are pursuing the BSc. Economics programme. The Department provides excellent teaching programme in Economics, Law, Statistics and Business Research at the undergraduate level. The department also undertakes research activities in Economics, Agriculture, Law and other social science related disciplines.

To produce well-grounded scholars in quantitative and theoretical analysis of economic issues.

To produce highly qualified graduates and to undertake active research in Economics and related disciplines to meet the demands of strategic development.
