Mr Kofi Akpabli
Kofi Akpabli teaches at the Department of Communication Studies. His areas of interest include in Inter-cultural Communication, narrative studies, travel writing, destination marketing and journalism. Courses he has taught at the department so far includes Feature Writing, Advanced Print Journalism, International Communication, African Studies, and Development Communications. At Central University he is the Patron of Creative Alliance, (a literary and performance platform) and also Patron of Miotso Herald (an Online news portal). He also serves on the University’s Editorial Board.
Kofi is a two-time winner of the CNN Multichoice African Journalist for Arts and Culture Awards. In 2018 he was voted by the Ghana Tourism Authority as ‘travel writer of the year’. His work ‘Made in Nima’, a creative non-fiction has been featured in the new Commonwealth Anthology of selected African writers published in London in 2016.
He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana and holds an MA Communications Studies (University of Ghana) and M.Phil Tourism (University of Cape Coast). Akpabli has published seven books including three biographies, and contributed chapters to four other books. He is a founding member of Ghana Cultural Forum and has participated in XploreFrankfurtRheinemann 2012, Tallberg Forum, Sweden 2011, Berlin Art Festival 2010 and the Dusseldorf Art Preview 2010. Since January 2012, he has been a writing a weekly travel column in the Mirror newspaper entitled “Going Places” which focuses on culture and He is also a features contributor for the Daily Graphic and the Business and Financial Times.
His civil society activism includes:
· Serving as a resource person to mentor teenagers in writing and communications at Albert & Comfort Ocran’s Annual Springboard Programme.
· Leading The DAkpabli Readathon a national campaign to promote reading for pleasure.
· He has served as a Distinguished Member on the Millennium Excellence Awards Committee for,Under the Patronage of Otumfuo Osei Tutu I, Asantehene.
