REV PROF EMMANUEL HANSON OFORI-AMANKWAH
Rev. Prof. E H Ofori-Amankwah, the current Dean of the Faculty of law at Central University, was called to the Ghana Bar in August 1967 after earning his LL.B Degree from the University of Ghana, Legon, in the previous year.
He proceeded to New York University, USA to do a master’s Degree in Law (LL.M) with a specialization in criminal Justice in June 1969 and eventually earned his Doctorate Degree in law from the same institution in June 1971.
Professor Ofori-Amankwah began his academic career at Ahmadu Bello University in Northern Nigeria in September 1973, and in all lectured at two other Nigerian universities, namely University of Benin (1987 – 1992), and University of Jos (1992 -1998). He was professor and Dean for the last two institutions.
He served on the General Legal Council in Nigeria for several years (1988 -1998), and served on several committees, in particular the Disciplinary Committee of the council.
He also served as External Examiner for Lagos University, University of Ibadan, University of Maiduguri, Imo State University, and assessed many of his contemporary colleagues for professorship.
Returning home to Ghana in 1998, he lectured at the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana, ending with full professorship in 2000 before exiting in 2003 to establish the Faculty of Law, KNUST as the foundation Dean (2003 – 2008). He is an ordained minister of the Gospel and served in the Lords Pentecostal church, since his ordination in the year 2000.
He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity (B.D) which he earned from Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, in October 2001.
Some of his major works are:Selected Essays in Criminal Justice, 1988; Introduction to Criminology and the Administration of Criminal Justice, 2012; Criminal Law in the Northern States of Nigeria 1986; Outline of Criminal Law Lectures, 2007, reviewed in 2017. He has articles in reputable law journals at home and abroad.
He has attended many conferences at home and abroad and is an associate member of the international institute of Human Rights, Strasbourg, France.
