CENTRAL UNIVERSITY LIBRARY WEEK CELEBRATION, 202125th May 2021
As part of the Library's mandate to educate and provide scholarly information to the University community, the Library Directorate celebrates its library week once every academic year.
This year's library week was celebrated from the 19th to 24th April, 2021 under the theme: Achieving SDG 4.6; the Role of CU Library.
The SDG 4 essentially talks about ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The SDG 4 has 10 targets but the Directorate decided to focus on the 6th target which talks about: Information Literacy and numeracy, thus ensuring that by the year 2030, every young and old person can read and do a simple calculation.
The week long celebration was marked with series of activities on all CU campuses. Some of the activities included trainings, "Get educated and grab a gift" session, exhibition of the Library's services and resources, with the major one being the launch which was held at Miotso on 21st April, 2021 during the Chapel Service.
Students, faculty members and the entire University community were educated and became aware of what the SDGs are about, the SDG 4.6 and the role that libraries play, especially CU Library, in achieving the target 6 of the SDG 4.
The Week long programme was very successful and received massive support from Management. Patronage was very encouraging, and the Directorate is looking forward to the 2022 edition of the Library Week celebration.
